Antique Edwardian pendant featuring a central garnet set in 9ct rose gold surrounded heart setting. These types of pendants were named Lavalier pendants popularised by the Duchesse de la Valliere, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France. On the back of the pendant it has the hallmark '9ct'.
Garnets were used extensively in all different designs of Victorian jewellery, bracelets, rings, brooches and elaborate necklaces, they represent the birthstone of January.
